Newfold's Gold Sports Award

Here at Newfold, we have a long tradition of excellent sporting provision.  Over the past five years we have looked to extend these opportunities for our community too.
In recognition of the outstanding sporting opportunities we provide and the exceptional commitment to sports at Newfold, we have been awarded the

'Sainsbury's School Games Gold Award'.

On Monday 16th November, we had some special visitors in our assembly, to present us with the award.  Pictured are Jordan Flores from Wigan Athletic, Mike Grundy - Professional Wrestler and Sara Bayman - England Netball Player and a former Newfold pupil.

We are very proud that our work has been recognised and appreciated by the external moderators and thank you to all the staff, volunteers, parents, carers, governors and children whose dedication and enthusiasm has helped us to secure the highly sought after, Gold Award.

Our Head Boy and Girl proudly accepting the award on behalf of our school. Also pictured is Mr Brendan Gibbons who has given many years service to the school as a volunteer football coach.

Newfold's Head Boy and Girl 2015

Well it's that time of year again; (Where does the time go?) the time when we vote in our Head and Deputy Head Boys and Girls.  The competition was fierce, this year.  Many of our Year 6 children prepared speeches in the initial stages of the selection process.  Thank you to you all for your wonderful efforts.

It was really great to listen to the short - listed candidates, who delivered some pretty impressive speeches to try to win the coveted title of Head Boy or Girl here at Newfold.  We enjoyed listening to each and every one of you.

The speeches were done, and it was then time for our children to vote for their favourite.  The candidates campaigned all week.  'Vote for me' posters started to appear around school and flyers were handed out.  One candidate even had his own blog! Wow!

The votes were in.  Mrs Yates had the nerve-wrecking job of counting them up, before the winners were finally announced in assembly on Monday morning - September 21st.

And the winners are...

Jack and Angel
(pictured above)

The Deputy Head Boy and Girl are...

Joseph and Robyn

And how do they all feel to be awarded these exciting roles at Newfold?  Well we asked them and this is what they said.

Jack - Head Boy

I felt amazed.  Before Year 6, I had been dreaming of becoming Head Boy.  When Mr Edge read my name out, I was shocked that I got the role.  I want to learn everybody's name so we can talk and discuss ideas.  I would also like to help the school to become an even better place. I will work with Joseph to try to put a smile on everybody's face.

Angel - Head Girl

I am as happy as can be to be your new Head Girl.  To the people who voted for me, I am so grateful.  It has made me more determined.  I would like to introduce 'Learning Buddies'.  People can team up to help each other to learn.  It's a real honour to be your Head Girl and well done to all of the other candidates.

Joseph - Deputy Head Boy

I was excited and felt different.  I want to help all children to enjoy Newfold. I want to be one of the best (Deputy) Head Boys.

Robyn - Deputy Head Girl

I was amazed.  I didn't think I would get it.  Thank you to everyone who voted for me.

Well done Guys! We look forward to seeing you in action, over the coming year.

School Grounds Week 2015

Last week, we held Newfold's School Grounds Week.  We run this event every summer to celebrate our wonderful school grounds.  We are incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful environment to work and play in and we really enjoy looking after it, by planting new plants and generally sprucing everything up.

We were very lucky, on the afternoon that we planted, that we had gorgeous sunny weather.  The children really enjoyed digging and weeding and planting all of their plants that they had brought into school.

Thank you to everybody who donated plants or gave their time to make the event a success.  It is very much appreciated.

If you didn't manage to see us in action on Thursday, 4th June, when we planted, why not take a look at this short video of Key Stage 2 busily planting?

(Apologies for videoing the wrong way round, hence the black sidebars.  Lesson learned for next time.)

Easter Bingo Evening

Newfold's Easter Bingo Evening was a resounding success and thoroughly enjoyed by members of our school community.

Over 150 people gathered together for 'eyes down look in' at 6:30 pm.

Mr Edge was our resident bingo caller. (Showing his age too - 67)

But 2 dozen does not make 22, Mr Edge!

Mrs Gibbons was in charge of selling raffle tickets for £1.00 each.

The prizes to be won included a bottle of Cava, luxury biscuits and some yummy Easter eggs.

Rose won these for a full house.  Well done Rose!

The Greer family almost cleared us out of prizes, winning 2 full houses and the 'Lucky Programme' number.

During the interval, refreshments were served and the pasties seemed to be very popular.

After the interval, Jemma was a lucky winner of this gorgeous raffle prize.

And Lauren won a full house.

Every child received a free creme egg! Yum, yum.

It was another really good night.  Thank you to everybody who came and made the event such a success.

Happy Easter!

Red Nose Day 2015

Red Nose Day was on Friday 13th March, this year.  In school, Mr Edge was approached by Charlee, Rubie and Summer who wanted to make some cakes to fund raise for the event.

The girls worked tirelessly, the weekend before, to make 110 cupcakes which were sold at break time on Monday 9th March. Olivia, the girls' friend, also contributed some cakes to be sold, but was absent on sale day due to illness.

The girls raised an impressive £55.50, from the sale and Mr Edge has very kindly donated the takings from our usual healthy tuck shop on Friday 13th March, to this.  The grand total raised is an impressive £125.50.

Thank you very much to the girls and to our children, for buying the items on both days.  The money will now be sent away to support this very worthy cause.

Did you do any fundraising for Red Nose Day?

World Book Day 2015

Here at Newfold, we celebrated World Book Day over two days - Wednesday 4th March for Nursery children and  Friday 6th March 2015 for the rest of the school.  There is always a fantastic turnout of costumes from both children and staff.  Everybody looked great and a lot of effort has obviously gone into the costumes worn by our children this year.

World book day usually begins by our staff, meeting in the hall and laughing at each other, in our costumes.  This year was no different.
Check this lot out!

Once the bell rings, at 8:55a.m, we welcome the children into school and we are always amazed at how great they look.

Take a look at some of the pictures from our day.
